Every foster experience is different. You learn so much as the cats come through your life.

Momma Marmalade had her kittens at IHS, Dorman. All of them ended up with ringworm, four kittens and mom. It started back in July 2024. They all stayed together in the ringworm ward until a foster came for them all. But the ringworm was tenacious and about the time momma started to go into heat, she and an older female kitten, Ginny, needed to be separated from the three male kittens.

It all seemed simple enough. I didn’t feel it was necessary to put momma and Ginny in a kennel for a few days before letting them have the whole room. I just let them out in the room that had been secure for the hundreds of cats and kittens before them.

I came back about an hour later and didn’t see the cats. I wasn’t worried at first because there are lots of cozy spots to hide. Then I saw it! The heat register cover had been pulled out and I knew the cats had crawled into the ducts under the second floor!

I was in shock! After hours of stifling panic, I called Rachel at Ted Dumont HVAC Inc. They sent out a serviceman to determine where the ducts on the second floor would go. It was not good news, and the opening they escaped into  would be hard to come back through. There was no  meowing.

Well, when in doubt, set traps.

That night I set two traps, and in the morning I had momma and Ginny in the traps!

Here it is, March. Momma was cleared for adoption and was adopted last week. I still have Ginny. We are hoping she will be cleared this week. Look for her on the IHS adoption page.
