Two Orange Cats

GCCCP received a call from Virginia who lived in a Riverside Village cul-de-sac. She was concerned about a big friendly orange kitty that just showed up and was visiting and “talking” to all the neighbors.

When I got there all the neighbors were out, ready to help. We got the orange guy into a carrier and Virginia took him up to Dorman IHS where he was adopted shortly after. Thanks to all the caring neighbors and Virginia’s involvement this sweet big kitty wasn’t on the streets long!

That was a happy ending.

The next day I received a call from someone walking on the nature path very close to Virginia’s home.

This was a very different story.

Handsome

They reported seeing another kitty, orange and white. He seemed to be in rough shape.

I found him quite aways from where he was last sighted, under some bushes by the side of the path.

I sat next to him and could see he was blind. He didn’t mind me sitting next to him that he didn't want me touching him. When I gave him food he was ravenous. I waited till he finished his food and then watched him get up and walk down the path. You could see he was skin and bones and wobbled as he wavered from one side of the path to the other. He would stop and lay down on the side of the path then get up and stagger down the path until he lay down on the side of the path again. After a time I was able to direct him into a carrier and take him home.

We named him “Handsome”. His eyes and nose were running and crusted over. He had earmites and when I picked him up to bathe him there were ticks and bean-shaped bugs that were attached.

I have great respect for the Idaho Humane Society, but euthanasia seemed obvious, and I wanted to spoil this kitty for just a few days after his sad life and before it was over.

Handsome died 4 days later.
