He called to ask what he should do about a mamma and three kittens in his backyard. This was a familiar scenario along with its own surprises!
Larry and his wife lived in a modest trailer park on 40th Street. The trailer was well maintained. But when he opened the wood gate, the first surprise was the beautiful inside. Every inch of this small amount of yard was utilized with raised beds, a beautiful shed and an amazing water tank that was used to sustain the garden.
It turns out Larry is an engineer from Russia. There are interesting tools throughout the garden that are only found in Russia. I felt like Alice in Wonderland!
It was Larry’s cell camera that saved the day.
The large water tank was great for the garden, but it got in the way when it came to catching kittens! They were under it while mom was under another trailer during the hot days.
By using each of our cell cameras, we figured out when mom came to visit and that’s when we set up the traps.
First night we trapped mom and one kitten, next night another kitten. Then next night we caught the third kitten using his sibling to attract him. It is VERY STRESSFUL catching kittens separately!
In the end, mom was spayed and returned, and kittens were fostered and adopted out. Idaho Humaine Society was our amazing partner through it all.
