Rehoming a Colony

Last month we talked about how restructuring Garden City is destroying many homes for both longtime community members and their feral cat colonies. One caregiver decided to move her colony out of harm’s way.

GCCCP has helped her spay and neuter 30+ cats while she was at the Garden City location. By doing this, it cut the population down to less than 20 by discouraging intact male cats from coming into the colony to breed, and encouraging intact male cats in the colony we didn’t trap to leave.

The caregiver found properties that had sheds and moved large cages against the sheds. Half the cats have been trapped and transferred, and over time the rest will be moved. The cats will be comfortable in an enclosure until they are familiar with their new location.
