GCCCP has our finger on the pulse of people throughout Garden City as it is transformed into a city demanding higher financial expectations of their citizens. This included David and Wendy. They lived in their trailer for seven years, but as the prices went up they could not afford to continue living there or anywhere else. But even realizing he and Wendy would have to live in their car, the only thing they were worried about was the welfare of their 6 cats. When they finally had to move out of the trailer, the cats had to live outside. David and Wendy came back every night and fed them at the trailer. We offered to help them apply for owner-surrender appointments. After weeks of waiting for the appointments, coming every night to feed the cats, Meow-Meow, Buddie and Lou-Lou were amenable to getting in carriers. Stripes, Patches and Sweetheart needed to be trapped to make sure they made their appointments.
Sweetheart
It was sad, but glorious that David and Wendy could continue their struggles without being fettered by the worry of leaving their cats behind. This is a scenario that happens often, but we can only help the Garden City residents who know to call us.
All the new rentals require large deposits and monthly fees for pets, along with a limit of animals. If people can scrape together the high rents, they usually panic to find some solution for their loved pets.
Idaho Humane Society is willing to help with their owner-surrender program, but many people don’t know about this option. Your donations will allow GCCCP to pay for any fees if they the person is a Garden City resident.
