Dumped on the greenbelt.

40th Street in Garden City has a lot of cats. There is one family, Natasha, her son Dustin and their daughter Dakota. They have helped injured strays in the past and we have done a lot trap neuter and return for them. Dustin cruises the Greenbelt every day on his bike and knows everyone, but he found something very disturbing over a two-week period. He found  four boxes of kittens dropped off in the bushes from 48th to 36th Street along the southside of the greenbelt. He found one kitten in a trash can. He brought them home and they took the ones that were still alive to IHS, except the little survivor pictured here.

We are asking people to consider making this stretch of the greenbelt part of their destination for walking. It is a beautiful stretch of path. While you are enjoying your walk, please watch for deserted cats and kittens. Don’t forget to look in the bushes, hollowed trees and trashcans. You might bring a towel to wrap kittens in, and don’t forget your phone. Look for food and water bowls.
