When I started trapping in Garden City about six years ago I was told about Dineen. People said there were more cats there than anywhere in Garden City. I knew I had to start knocking on doors and meeting my neighbors to find the caregivers who fed the cats, and hers was the first door I knocked on.
When I introduced myself and asked her if I could trap, neuter and return the cats around her trailer she glared at me, paused and said, “Sure, take all you want.” She fed them, but, at that point, had no resources to spay/neuter them. She thought I was crazy, and she watched as I fumbled around, learning trapping techniques.
At some point things clicked and I started trapping cats and kittens by the carloads.
In the background, there was an amazing woman who was part of a rescue in Kentucky and had moved here. She offered to adopt out any kittens we rescued.
Soon I realized Dineen was the type of person I would be looking for all over Garden City. The kind people that have little to give, and give more than they have.
This September, Dineen told me she wouldn’t need her food delivered. Her family found a home for her in Caldwell. She took eight cats with her. GCCCP will miss them all. ☹ 43 cats spayed\neutered. 21 adopted out!
