Kitten season finally Started! Time for fostering.
Idaho Humane Society gave GCCCP five ringworm kittens. These babies will need oral medication (terbinafine) and be "dipped" in lime sulfur solution two times a week, until the ringworm fungas stops showing up on their hair under a black light.
After a month, two of the kittens were cleared for adoption. We keep up the meds and dips until there is no green glow under the black light. This might take another month, even two. But it is a great feeling when you know you have allowed these kittens to be healthy and adopted to their new homes!
Kittens and cats used to be euthanized immediately, and still are in other animal shelters, not because ringworm is dangerous, but because it was too much trouble and took too much time to heal it.
This is Sid. He needed to be fostered for 2 1/2 weeks while gaining weight prior to being neutered and put up for adoption. He was the quintessential kitten-- playful, curious, rambunctious, and full of charm.
The Bear brothers Sitka and Kenai. They were a little over 3 weeks old and just learning to eat wet food. They needed to be fed several times a day to support weight gain. Sitka especially needed encouragement to eat and eye medication two times a day. They both thrived during fostering and after a month of TLC were ready to be neutered and put up for adoption.
