SILVIA

Sylvia and Dante were not cat people and had no idea what to do when they found kittens in the ivy next to their house. They called us and asked for help.

Their neighbor had a large colony. Previously he trapped and neutered most of his colony, but a few cats had eluded him. One of those was the mamma of the kittens in the ivy.

The kittens were no more than a week old. Their eyes were barely open. I wrapped them in a cozy blanket and placed it in a closed trap. The second trap was placed next to it and set. One towel covered both. Silvia and I visited in her livingroom where we looked out the window at mamma figuring out the new arrangement. It was a cold, dark night, and nerve- wracking waiting for her to decide it was worth going in the set trap to see her kittens. About four hours later, around 10 p.m., Sylvia called to report that the trap door was closed.

Fostering a feral mamma and kittens is tricky, so GCCCP offered to do it for IHS. For a month, I walked into my foster room, greeted by mom growling, hissing and lunging towards me. The kittens were always ready for a visit 😉. After a month, when the kittens were weened, mom was glad to go back to the colony, and the kittens were thrilled to “party” with mom gone.
