Sweet Pea's Story

Among all the cats GCCCP is involved with, most have caregivers and belong to colonies. Every once in a while we run into a single cat that doesn’t seem to have anyone and is certainly the worst for wear.

Debbie called us and said she found a small kitty pressed into the corner of an outside patio, by a sliding glass door that was letting out some warmth from the home. Debbie had two dogs inside so she built a safe enclosure with her patio table covered, soft bedding and heating pads, water and food.

Sweet Pea was barely alive. She was thin, and  one eye was damaged.

She would shy away if you tried to touch her, but seemed to like company when Debbie and her husband would sit outside at night.

On a visit, GCCCP caught Sweet Pea under the table, napping, and gently wrapped her in a blanket so we could transport her to IHS Dorman facility. Euthanasia was my concern.

It was obvious that the eye would have to be removed and her teeth as well. She wasn’t a kitten, as her size suggested, but was about  10 years old.

Once you give a stray to the IHS, they own the stray. All GCCCP could do is promise fostering and any support to save Sweet Pea.

God bless the Dorman veterinarian staff! They said they would try to save her!

We are so happy to be fostering Sweet Pea (now Betty, but I call her Dot).

Her eye was removed and soon dental work will be performed. She will only miss the pain.

She now loves to snuggle and loves being part of our home and our cats’ new friend.

Watch for her on the IHS adoption page soon!
